Back to school means more time spent writing papers, completing assignments, and reading. Also, it means less time for posting, put more time to listen to new music while getting things done.

This week my attention is wrapped up in this cover of Bon Iver’s “Flume” by Peter Gabriel for his latest release, a covers album titled Scratch My Back. Live Cast Spells Tracks

Today was an interesting day of surprises both good and bad, but none of that matters because Cast Spells is coming to Bloomington tomorrow, which brings the company of one my favorite people, Dave Davison. Just to feed my excitement, some live tracks were posted on the Cast Spells MySpace tonight.

The tracks were recorded at Electraplay and feature Davison’s vocals and guitar along with some light percussion (bongo drums), and…a toy piano?? Anyway, the sound quality is beautiful so please go check it out!

Above is one of my favorite renditions of Cast Spells track “A Badge” performed with Sargent House labelmates Good Old War and Hezikiah Jones, recorded by IfYouMakeIt. Great assortment of instruments and voices that gives the tune a spiritual quality.

For everyone in Bloomington, Check out Cast Spells, with Prayer Breakfast and Osteoferocious at The Bishop tomorrow night (1/28). Show starts at 9pm!!

of Montreal + Solange Knowles = Jackson 5 cover? Weird.

Caught on to this from You Ain’t No Picasso. Still not sure how I feel about it. It’s great to see different sides of music coming together, appreciating each others’ music, and showing a mutual appreciation for a classic…but this is still just weird.
