The Holidays Don’t Have To Be So Rotten: Volume 2 – Flannelgraph Records

Well everybody, it’s here, my favorite time of the year… Christmastime, or Holidaytime, if you are so inclined.  I LOVE this time of the year, already got me tree up after Thanksgiving dinner, wrapped some gifts this weekend, and getting the craving to watch some Christmas movies. But what really gets me in the Christmas spirit, is the music! Local record label Flannelgraph Records is already prepared and has released its second annual benefit compilation The Holidays Don’t Have To Be So Rotten (Volume 2), available TODAY!

Featuring original instrumental holiday music from Flannelgraph musicians and friends, all twenty-three tracks tunes on this album come from local and regional musicians (and a few extra Flannelgraph friends) and the profits will benefit Stepping Stones, a local organization dedicated to assisting teenagers who experience homelessness. Expect to hear tracks from big names in the Indiana indie scene including Sleeping Bag, Mike Adams at His Honest Weight, Burnt Ones, Whippoorwill, Laura K. Balke, Candy Claws, Homecomings, The Parade Schedule, Tim Felton, Frank Schweikhardt, Bro. Stephen, Chad Serhal, and many more.

My favorite so far happens to be Whippoorwill’s “E.L.F.”, but trust me, they are all excellent tunes for warming up next to that holiday fire.

The album artwork was once again contributed by Indiana artist Gavin Smith and is described as “Arthur Fonzarelli expressing his gratitude after being invited to spend Christmas with the Cunninghams” (from the TV-show Happy Days). The album was mastered by former Bloomington musician Michael Hart Dixon (Memory Map, Homecomings, Prayer Breakfast, Rep Seki).

Purchase The Holidays Don’t Have To Be So Rotten (Volume 2) on the Flannelgraph Records bandcamp page and feel good about yourself this holiday season (it’s going toward a great cause AND you can name your price!) The album can also be purchased at local record stores Landlocked Music and TD’s CDs and LPs.
