I’m happy to share a Bloomington duo by the name of Buffalojump with you today. Most locals who have been following the scene have been aware of these ladies for at least a year now, but the group has finally decided to make their recordings available for the public to hear.
Buffalojump is a duo of singer-songwriters Biz Strother and Cate Swan. Their sultry county-folk style is a mix between modern tastes like The Wreckers and more classic influences such as The Carter Family and Patsy Cline. Biz handles the guitar work and main vocals, while Cate holds her own on accompanying vocals and harmonies, and the occasional lead vocal (even sometimes providing a little ukulele or tambourine action). The first time I heard these ladies live, they were performing on Local Live and they absolutely blew away the WFHB staff. Spend some time with their spring recordings, now available for listening on bandcamp. You’ll have these voices stuck in your head.
HipsterSpinster Recommends: “Fear Not”, “So Baby Please”, “He’s Solid Gone” (Carter Family cover), “Little Feather”
