There is something about fall that finds me renewing my love for Bloomington. The seasons change, my birthday happens, and then this town just explodes with musical and cultural events. Just last week, WTIU posted 10 Must-See Indie Shows For Fall including some excellent upcoming concerts including Wye Oak, Dinosaur Jr., Ani DiFranco, and Matisyahu. Here are the shows I’m excited to see heading to our bustling little college town:
September 20: Ben Sollee @ Buskirk-Chumley Theater (Lotus World Music & Arts Festival)
September 27: Murder By Death, Maps & Atlases @ The Bluebird (MBD CD Release Show)
September 29: Two Man Gentleman Band @ The Bishop
October 1: Jens Lekman, Taken By Trees @ Buskirk-Chumley Theater
October 2: Kalispell, Bro. Stephen, John Davy @ Bear’s Place
October 4: R. Stevie Moore @ The Bishop
October 22: Dinosaur Jr. @ The Bluebird
October 29: Margot & the Nuclear So & So’s, Gentleman Caller @ The Bishop
November 3: Over The Rhine @ Buskirk-Chumley Theater
Other arts happenings in Bloomington I’m pumped about:
IU Cinema – This is such an opportunity to see films (films –not movies), public Q & A’s with directors and filmmakers, and have an old-fashioned (and highly affordable) movie-going experience. Everyone has been freaking out about the weeklong Werner Herzog series this week, and that’s only one of many great series’ on the Fall schedule.
IU Theater and Drama: It’s been a while since I’ve been interested in live drama, but with productions of Spring Awakening, The School for Scandal, and The God of Carnage on the schedule, I’m thinking it’s time to get back into the theater.
