Joyful Noise Recordings to Release Dinosaur Jr. Cassette Trilogy

Dinosaur Jr. seems to really have a thing for Indiana indie labels.  First, the band signed with Bloomington label Jagjaguwar back in 2009 and released the album Farm. Now, the alt-rock legends are releasing a three-cassette box set via Indianapolis indie Joyful Noise Recordings.

Due out December 13, the custom designed box set includes cassettes of the band’s first three releases Dinosaur (1985), You’re Living All Over Me (1987), and Bug (1988), and is limited to 500 copies.  While the band isn’t from the area, this project is everything regional.  The trilogy will be packaged in a wooden box, custom-built by Indianapolis’ Deep Wood Workshop, whose credits include Joyful Noise box sets for of Montreal, Marmoset, and Joan of Arc. The boxes are screen-printed by Bloomington group incaseofemergencypress, who have provided designs for everything from t-shirts, to posters, and albums for area musicians. Each chrome cassette will be wrapped in 8 panel original artwork.

As a bonus for audiophiles, one in every 10 trilogy sets will include a cassette of the first Sebadoh cassette Weed Forestin’ just as the original issue of You’re Living All Over Me did back in the day. That means only FIFTY of those who order the trilogy will receive this rare re-release (it’s not being sold separately.)  Sounds like a sweet deal to me!

In promotion of the release, Dinosaur Jr. will be heading out on a December tour and playing Bug in its entirety. Check out the tourdates here.
