San Diego quartet The Donkeys recently made its fourth session with Daytrotter performing songs from 2011’s Born With Stripes (Dead Oceans). The band’s laid-back California rock came onto my radar back in 2011 when they were touring in support of Born With Stripes. They stopped by the WFHB studio for a brief performance and interview and played at The Bishop that night. I was quite taken with the set and the album appeared on my Best of list that year. What I love about this band is its ability to seamlessly blend a variety of genres and sounds between songs. Born With Stripes hosts everything from upbeat rock to blues, dreamy California rock to Indian style ragas, and the band executes each style with perfection.
