This news forced me to ‘pause’ Sleeping Bag’s Women of Your Life, so listen up.
Bluesy, psychedelic band Wolf People has not only released a new single, “All Returns” but also announced that a new album is due this year. Fain has an expected release date of April 30 and will be the band’s first since 2010’s Steeple. I was hooked to the band upon hearing “October Fires” from 2009’s Tidings, which was re-released on vinyl with Jagjaguwar the following year (and subsequently re-re-released on CD format last week). Listening to the band was like listening to The Darkness for the first time; I felt like I had entered an audio time-warp and been transported to the late-1960s. There was obvious influence from bands like John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers and Cream (among others). The UK band’s thick, soulful, blues-rock style seemed out of its time, but was executed with such authority that I had no choice but to be entranced. Later that year came a follow-up in Steeple with the crunchy lead track “Tiny Circle” and the “Salisbury Sands” single, and then a relatively quiet period. I began to lose hope that Wolf People would return, but yet, here they are, armed with a worthy new single, “All Returns”. Give it a listen, enjoy the back-catalog, and get ready for funky new sounds.
