Mark your calendars now because Meat Puppets are coming to Bloomington.
Legendary rockers Meat Puppets will perform at The Bishop in Bloomington on April 9 and even if you aren’t a huge Meat Puppets fan, you should consider going. Formed in Phoenix AZ in 1980, Meat Puppets have not only made their own lasting impact in the musical world, but have also been influential to many bands including Nirvana, Dinosaur, Jr., Soundgarden, Pavement, and more. My first taste of Meat Puppets came along when Nirvana featured the Kirkwood brothers and three Meat Puppets songs, “Plateau“, “Oh, Me“, and “Lake of Fire” in the infamous MTV Unplugged performance in 1993 (of course I saw it much later… I was busy being a five-year-old during the original broadcast). I was instantly attracted to the lyrics and found a sense of respect for the band. Years later when the Lollipop arrived at the WFHB radio station, I was more than happy to spin the album and get reacquainted with the band’s music.
I highly recommend you check out Meat Puppets and mark your calendars for the April show. You’ll probably regret not going. I’m not a die-hard fan or very familiar with the band’s complete catalog, but I respect the bands that respected them, and because of that I can’t miss this opportunity. Thank the folks at Spirit of ’68 Promotions and Landlocked Music, and be in front of your computer at 10:00 AM this Friday (Feb. 1), that’s the time that tickets go on sale. The Bishop is a very cozy venue when it’s full… and it better be for this show.
