One of my gigs in my non-blog life is hosting Local Live on WFHB Community Radio which broadcasts throughout Bloomington, Nashville, and Ellettsville, Indiana. This week’s musical guest was the talented musician and songwriter Merrie Sloan and her accompanying Mighty Fine Men. Merrie Sloan has been a staple in the local music scene, performing her own songs as well as supporting other bands for over 20 years. A talented multi-instrumentalist, Sloan has been known to play guitar, bass, piano, and even accordion. Give the session a listen/download here. New Song: e.p. hall – “The Voice That Burns is Mine”

It’s always been a constant waiting game with former Bloomington songstress e.p. hall. Pulled between her commitments to both academia and songwriting, muse Elise Percy was either locked away in post-graduate studies or on tour with whichever talented bandmates she could round up. Now, her studies have taken her far from Bloomington to Ontario, Canada and just when we thought we’d heard the last from her before another scholarly seclusion, Percy announced the free download of a new song “The Voice That Burns is Mine” on Halloween. New Music: Spirit Spine – “Artificial Sweat”

A little heat and lack of precipitation haven’t kept local artist Spirit Spine out of the studio. Following the release of last month’s Atlantic Downs, a new song is already available for your listening pleasure. Try out “Artificial Sweat“, a steady instrumental jam up for a free download.

New Music: “Lucky A Hundred Times” – Kalispell

With the release date for Westbound a little over a month away, Wisconsin folk project Kalispell is getting antsy. The band has announced pre-orders for the album this week, which can be purchased on its bandcamp page. While there, listeners can check out “Lucky A Hundred Times“, the first single from the album, which is currently available for a free listen and download.

To sweeten the deal, those who pre-order Westbound will receive a free download of the Last Year EP.

Westbound is set for release on May 17.
